YKMA TAKES TECHNICAL POSSESSION OF AKUTUNYA MARKET AS A SITE EARMARKED FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE 24-HOUR ECONOMY MARKET

After broader consultations with stakeholders and consulting firm to select a site which meets all categories for the construction of the 24-hour economy market, the Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly selected the Akutunya market, Somanya.

On Tuesday, 12th May, 2026, the Honourable Assembly Memebers led by the Presiding Member(PM), Hon. Edwin Yao Tengey, Traditional Authorities, and residents of Yilo Krobo Municipality gathered in their numbers at Akutunya market to warmly welcome the Municipal Chief Executive(MCE) of Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly, Hon. Francis Addo Akumatey, and the astute technocrats of various departments and units led by the Municipal Co-ordinating Director, Mr. Abdul-Hussein A. Rasheed, to technically possess the Akutunya market as a construction site for the 24-hour economy market project.

In his welcome address, the MCE of Yilo Krobo Municipality, Hon. Akumatey, stated emphatically that he had no personal interest in the selection of the construction site. He emphasized that the 24-hour economy market is a special market with standard design and its technical specifications. He elaborated that per the instructions given by the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftancy, and Religious Affairs, a site earmarked for the project should be at least three(3) acres, should be close to business centres, and should coordinates big cities.

The consulting firm, FeDems Limited, led by Mr. Anthony Astrim, reechoed the technical specifications mentioned by the MCE before a site would be considered for the construction of the 24-hour economy market. He highlighted that the market would be equipped with modern facilities including cold storage units, sanitation systems, childcare centres, police and fire posts, mini clinic with pharmacy, women’s bank, inter alia.

The representative of Konor of Yilo Krobo Traditional Area expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the president of the republic, the MCE, and all the Assembly Memebers for this ultra-modern project which will boost the local economy.
