The Education, Youth & Sports Department is responsible for coordinating educational, youth, and sports development activities within the Municipality. The Department oversees pre-school, special education, and basic education, as well as youth development, sports promotion, and library services at the municipal level.

The Department plays a key role in promoting access to quality education, encouraging youth participation in development programmes, and supporting sports and recreational activities to enhance social development and well-being.

Coordination and Oversight Functions

The Education, Youth & Sports Department harmonises the activities and functions of the following agencies at the municipal level:

  • Ghana Education Service (GES)
  • National Youth Authority / Youth Council
  • National Sports Authority / Sports Council
  • Ghana Library Authority / Library Board

Through effective coordination, the Department ensures that educational and youth-related programmes are aligned with national policies and local development priorities.

Role in Accountability and Service Delivery

Through coordination, supervision, and collaboration with relevant agencies, the Department promotes accountability, effective programme implementation, and improved education, youth, and sports service delivery across the Municipality.
