▶️A representative of National Commission for Civic Education(NCCE)
▶️A representative of Commission of Human Rights and Administrative Justice(CHRAJ)
▶️A representative of Information Services Department
▶️A representative of Civil Society Organisations in the Municipality
In his inaugural address, the chairman of the committee, Hon. Edwin Yao Tengey, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all the members. He explained that municipality has two(2) important committees; the executive committee, and the Public Relations and Complaints Committee. He emphasized that the PRCC does not have sub-committee(s) unlike the Executive committee. He continued that the key services the committee will provide are pivotal to bridge the gap between the members of the public in the Municipality and the Assembly to facilitate participatory governance as the residents can now channel their grievances through the PRCC.
During the pellucid orientation of members of the committee, the Deputy Director, Mr. Christopher Teila, highlighted these among others as the core functions of the committee:
🗣️Educating members of the republic on the activities of the Municipal Assembly.
🗣️Promoting transparency, probity, and accountability in the dealings of the Assembly.
🗣️Investigating complaints or allegations made against the conduct of the MCE, Members of Municipal Assembly, and Staff of YKMA.
🗣️ Investigating complaints or allegations of administrative injustice, abuse and misuse of office and violation of fundamental human rights of any member of the public in the Municipality against the MCE, a member of the Assembly, and staff of the Assembly.
However, Mr. Teila emphasized that the PRCC shall not investigate a matter which is pending before a court or CHRAJ.
In the Chairperson’s closing remarks, Hon. Tengey, added that the Public Relations and Complaints Committee shall comply with the rules of natural justice in the performance of its functions and make recommendations to the Municipal Assembly in respect of its investigations for the appropriate action of the Municipal Assembly. He thanked members of the committee for honouring the invitation to make the inauguration a success.
