YILO KROBO MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY PARTICIPATES IN CONSTITUTION REVIEW COMMITTEE ZONAL PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT IN KOFORIDUA
The Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly on Thursday, the 3rd of July 2025 participated in the 2025 Constitution Review Committee Zonal Stakeholders Engagements held at the Capital View Hotel in Koforidua on the invitation of the Eastern Regional Co-ordinating Council.
The Constitution Review Committee 2025 chaired by Professor Henry Kwasi Prempeh was set up by the President of the Republic, H.E John Dramani Mahama in January 2025 to review the 1992 Constitution and the Committee is currently embarking on zonal engagements across the country to solicit views of Ghanaians in that respect.
In his inaugural address, the Chairman of the committee, Prof. H. Kwasi Prempeh stated that the review exercise was intended to solving problems.
During the submissions and questions time to engage the public, many were issues raised by stakeholders spanning from the election of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives(MMDCEs), the capping of the Supreme Court Judges, Reviewing the roles of the Council of State, Reviewing the requirement age for a person to qualify to contest as a President of Ghana, Reviewing the immunity of the president after his tenure in office, moving the tenure of a President from four(4) years to five(5) or six(6) years, reviewing the entire Article 71, to reviewing the age for consensual sex and marriage to be the same inter alia.
In his closing remarks, the chairman of the committee thanked all the participants and representatives and entreated stakeholders to make subsequent submissions to
submissions@constitutionreviewgh.org
To ensure full participation and representation, the Eastern Regional Co-ordinating Council invited three (3) persons from all the municipalities and Districts in the region and the Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly was represented by Mr. Kwabena Adu (Development Planning Officer), Mrs. Henrietta Glikpo (NCCE Head) and Bismark Anyankwah Opoku (Ag. MIO/RTI Officer).
The public engagement was graced by dignitaries such as the Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Rita Akosua Awatey, Municipal and District Chief Executives, Representatives of Eastern Regional House of Chiefs and Representatives of the security agencies, Religious bodies, CSOs, Disability groups, Teachers Associations and other concerned Ghanaians from the region.
