YKMA HOLDS DAY 1 OF 2-DAY NEW GENERATION LEADERSHIP TRAINING FOR ASSEMBLY MEMBERS.

On Thursday, 20th August 2026, the Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly (YKMA) officially launched a two-day capacity-building workshop to enhance the governance, legislative, and leadership skills of both elected and appointed Assembly Members. The nationwide programme is being organized by the Institute of Local Government Studies (ILGS) in partnership with the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, NALAG, and media partners.

It aims to empower local leaders to drive sustainable development and advance effective decentralization. The first day of the 2-Day New Generation Leadership Training was successfully held with 63 Assembly Members in attendance. The programme provided a platform for participants to strengthen their leadership capacity, share experiences, and engage in practical discussions on issues affecting the effective discharge of their responsibilities.

The programme was formally opened by Mr. Abdul-Hussein A .Rasheed, the Municipal Coordinating Director, who welcomed participants and introduced the dignitaries present. His opening remarks set the tone for the day’s activities and the interactive sessions that followed.

The training was facilitated by Dr. Jerome Awortwe-Abban and Mr. Oliver Baidoo. The facilitators led participants through the day’s sessions and encouraged active participation, discussion, and the sharing of practical experiences.

Hon. Edwin Yaw Tengeh (PM) was present and participated in the activities of the day. His participation provided an opportunity for direct engagement with Assembly Members on matters relating to their work and the challenges they encounter in the performance of their duties.

A key session during the day focused on the challenges faced by Assembly Members. Participants openly shared their experiences and expressed their views on how some of these challenges could be addressed. The session provided an avenue for Assembly Members to discuss practical issues affecting their work and to offer suggestions on how processes and arrangements could be improved.Assembly Members also had the opportunity to ask questions and seek clarification on issues arising from the discussions.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Francis Addo Akumatey, took time to respond to the concerns raised and provided practical solutions and guidance based on his experience.

The open and interactive nature of the session encouraged meaningful engagement between Assembly Members and the leadership of the Assembly. It allowed participants to articulate their concerns, exchange perspectives, and contribute ideas on improving the effectiveness of their roles within the local government system.Mr. Ebenezer Frimpong Obeng served as the Administrator for the programme and supported the coordination and administrative arrangements for the day’s activities.

The first day concluded successfully, with active participation from the 63 Assembly Members present. The day’s discussions provided a valuable platform for learning, experience-sharing, and direct engagement, setting a strong foundation for the continuation of the training on the second day.
