YKMA HOLDS LAST GENERAL MEETING OF THE YEAR
On Monday, December 22, 2025, the Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly(YKMA) held its Third ordinary meeting of the second session of the fourth Assembly. The meeting was convened and presided over by the Presiding Member of YKMA, Hon. Edwin Yao Tengey. The meeting was graced by the Municipal Chief Executive(MCE) of YKMA, Hon. Francis Addo Akumatey, Member of Parliament for Yilo Krobo Constituency, Hon. Albert Tetteh Nyakotey, Municipal Co-ordinating Director, Mr. Abdul Hussein A. Rasheed, Heads of department, among others.
The Presiding Member, Hon. Tengey, thanked all the Assembly Memebers for their sacrifices which are shaping the future of their residents and the Municipality as a whole. He urged them to continually work together to address the challenges and explore the opportunities at their disposal to bring prosperity and growth in the Municipality. He appealed to management to pay the ex gratia of the previous Assembly Memebers.
The Municipal Chief Executive(MCE) of the Municipality, Hon. Francis Addo Akumatey, expressed his profound appreciation to the Honourable Members for their indispensable contributions to the growth and development of Yilo. Hon. Akumatey presented the following Executive Committee’s recommendations on sub-committees reports for consideration and approval:
▶️Implementation of appropriate road safety measures on the Sikabeng-Agogo Road, particularly around the bridge to prevent accidents.
▶️Implementation of Electronic Billing Payment System.
▶️Upgrading the existing Nkurakan Police Station to District Police Command if the construction of a new police post proves unfeasible.
▶️Provision of suitable office accommodation for the National Ambulance Service and Ghana National Fire Service.
▶️Compilation of all Middle Belt Development Authority projects, both completed and uncompleted within the Municipality for their operationalization.
▶️Provision of a thorough briefing to the General Assembly on the management and utilization of the District Road Improvement Programme(DRIP) machinery.
▶️Initiation of “Mango Festival” to encourage farmers, traders, and processors to increase production and add value.
▶️ Relocation of market women at Nkurakan who trade along the roadway to decongest the road during market days
The Member of Parliament for Yilo Krobo Constituency, Hon. Albert Tetteh Nyakotey, expressed his satisfaction and commended the honourable assembly memebers for their dedications, orderliness in the house, and engagement in fruitful debates which are akin to the deliberations at the Parliament of Ghana. He announced to the house his collaboration and touring with Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) to provide uninterrupted communication network to Agogo and upper part of Yilo.
In briefing the house, the Focal Person for Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty(LEAP) in the Municipality, Mr. Eric Onai, stated that Yilo Krobo was among the first twenty-one(21) districts selected to pilot the programme. He continued that the programme started with hundred(100) household beneficiaries in the Municipality and the number has increased to One thousand, four hundred and forty-six(1446). However, the number has reduced to One thousand, One hundred and ninety-nine(1,199) due to the demise of some beneficiaries. He added that the municipality has sixty-six(66) beneficiary communities and ten(10) new communities would be added as residents of these communities have already been sensitized.
The Director for Business Advisory Centre(BAC), Mr. Wilberforce Ahwireng, stated that BAC engages in training of people, registration of businesses, business counseling, etc. He added that in 2024, BAC trained five hundred and ninety-eight people in fish farming, artisanship, food processing, livestock farming, inter alia. Two hundred and seventy-five(275) beneficiaries were supported and the rest received theirs on Monday, December 22, 2025. He appealed to the Honourable members to encourage their residents to register their companies.
In closing his remarks, the PM, Hon. Tengey, thanked all the members for their active participations and invaluable contributions which are instrumental in driving and shaping the growth of the Municipality. He cautioned the Honourable Members who do not attend sub-committee meetings to put a stop to it. He added that members of the house must eschew in dabbling in chieftancy disputes in their Electoral Areas.
