YILO KROBO MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY DONATES CASH AND RELIEF ITEMS TO SPECIAL NEEDS STUDENTS.

To promote inclusive education and protect vulnerable pupils, on Friday, June 12, 2026, the Social Welfare and Community Development Department, under the auspices of the Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly (YKMA), donated cash and relief items to special needs students of Yilo State MA Basic School in Somanya.

The Municipal Chief Executive of Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly, Hon. Francis Addo Akumatey,emphasized that the donation forms part of the Assembly’s mandate to ensure fair distribution of District Assembly Common Fund and equitable access to education to safeguard the welfare of children with disabilities in the municipality.

Among the relief Items donated included: toiletries, mattresses, a box of handgloves, ceiling fans, mop and bucket, a box of A4 sheet, packets of exercise books.

Receiving the items, the Headteacher expressed gratitude to YKMA, noting that the items remain one of the most pressing needs in special education units due to high usage and the extra care some pupils require. The Headteacher disclosed that the students would leave for Takoradi on Sunday to participate in sporting activities.

The Municipal Social Welfare Officer,Madam Na-Afua Woyram Tettey, reiterated the Assembly’s commitment to the Disability Act, 2006 (Act 715) and the Inclusive Education Policy, assuring continuous support to remove barriers that prevent children with special needs from accessing quality education.
