NYA DISTRIBUTES EQUIPMENT TO BENEFICIARIES OF NATIONAL APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMME
On Tuesday, 24th February, 2026, the National Youth Authority(NYA), under the auspices of Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly(YKMA), distributed items to the first batch of beneficiaries of National Apprenticeship Programme(NAP). The beneficiaries comprised ten(10) Mastercraft persons and fifty(50) apprentices. The event was graced by the Municipal Chief Executive of Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly, Hon. Francis Addo Akumatey, Member of Parliament for Yilo Krobo Constituency, Hon. Albert Tetteh Nyakotey, and the Eastern Regional Coordinator of National Apprenticeship Programme(NAP), Mr. Emmanuel Asante.
The Municipal Chief Executive of Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly, Hon. Francis Addo Akumatey, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the president of the republic, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, for fulfilling his promise to empower the youth through Apprenticeship Programmes. He stated that when the portal was opened for applicants to register for the programme, Six hundred and forty-three(643) apprentices and Two hundred and seventy-one(271) Mastercraft persons registered. 50 apprentices and 10 Mastercraft persons were selected out of the 643 and 271 respectively. He advised the Mastercraft persons to take good care of the equipment and also admonished the apprentices to accord their Masters and Madams with utmost respect as they are playing pivotal roles to make them self-reliant in the future.
The Member of Parliament for Yilo Krobo Constituency, Hon. Albert Tetteh Nyakotey, thanked the president of the republic for his commitment towards youth empowerment. He stated, “Talent without right equipment is untapped potential.” He advised the beneficiaries to use the equipment to unearth their potentials through this Apprenticeship Programme.
The Eastern Regional Coordinator of the National Apprenticeship Programme, Mr. Emmanuel Asante, revealed that out of the Ten thousand(10,000) Persons used to pilot the programme nationwide, he was able to secure One thousand, two hundred(1,200) for Eastern Region of which Yilo Krobo Municipality is the second highest beneficiaries in Region. He continued that the 50 apprentices will be shared among the 10 Mastercraft persons and each apprentice will receive monthly stipend while three thousand cedis(GHS 3,000.00) per head will be paid to the Mastercraft persons as apprenticeship fees. He added that each Mastercraft person who sews will receive 5 hand-sewing machines, complete set of knitting machine, complete set of industrial machine, among others. He emphasized that the set of equipment will be handed over to the Mastercraft persons not the apprentices. However, brand new set of equipment will be distributed to the apprentices as start-up kits at the end of their apprenticeship. He reminded the Mastercraft persons that the apprentices will be under their care for twelve(12) months so they should eschew asking the apprentices to run unproductive errands for them. He pleaded with the Non-beneficiaries to exercise patience as the number of beneficiaries will be increased from 10,000 to 100,000 nationwide so more Yilo people will benefit in the second batch.
Mr. John Kissiedu, the Municipal Coordinator of National Youth Authority(NYA), expressed his profound gratitude to the Regional Coordinator for selecting Yilo Krobo among the first batch of beneficiaries of the National Apprenticeship Programme in the region. He cautioned the beneficiaries to use the start-up kits productively.
