The Yilo Krobo Municipal Hospital has recorded an impressive 76.64% in its maiden participation in the Eastern Regional Peer Review Assessment 2026, scoring 1,313 points out of a possible 1,713 points.
The achievement reflects the hospital’s strengths in surgical systems, clinical care, maternity practices and governance, demonstrating its commitment to quality healthcare delivery and continuous institutional improvement.
The rigorous peer review exercise is designed to assess the performance of health facilities, identify areas for improvement, share best practices and strengthen the quality and safety of services delivered to clients.
A three-member delegation from the Eastern Regional Health Directorate, led by Francisca Antwi Amamouas, Eastern Regional Chief Nursing Officer, conducted the assessment with support from an 11-member team from Asesewa Government Hospital and VRA Hospital, Akosombo.
The exercise also benefited from the active participation of key stakeholders, including Assembly Members, community representatives and a team from the Yilo Krobo Municipal Health Directorate, led by the Municipal Health Director, Mrs. Irina Ofei. Their involvement helped ensure that the assessment reflected the perspectives and experiences of the communities served by the hospital.
The hospital was assessed across several critical areas, including:

  • Environment and Infrastructure
  • Infection Prevention and Control
  • Emergency Services and Systems
  • Quality and Safety Management Systems
  • Clinical Practices
  • Client Care
  • Occupational Health and Safety
  • Governance
  • Regional Health Directorate Remarks
One of the major highlights of the assessment was the hospital’s surgical theatre structure, which received a perfect score and attracted commendation from the assessment team, with positive remarks also from the Regional Health Directorate.
Speaking on behalf of Management, staff and stakeholders of the hospital, Dr. (Med.) Eric Apodolla, Medical Superintendent of the Yilo Krobo Municipal Hospital, expressed appreciation to the assessors and all stakeholders who contributed to the exercise.
He said Management has accepted the assessment results in good faith, noting that the outcome would contribute significantly to strengthening institutional systems, improving service delivery, addressing identified gaps and safeguarding the continued growth and effective administration of the facility.
The 76.64% score therefore represents not only a significant milestone for the Yilo Krobo Municipal Hospital but also a renewed commitment to achieving higher standards of quality, safety and patient-centred healthcare delivery.
